Custom Log Milling
We can mill your logs into lumber with our Woodmizer sawmill. Just bring them and leave them with us!
Cost
The cost is $100/hour, with a minimum charge of $100. This includes log unloading time (if we unload your logs) and any time spent stacking lumber or routinely changing out sawmill blades. (We begin with a sharp blade.) There is an extra charge of $30 for hitting metal in the log if the blade is dulled, per blade change.
For Best Results
We do not guarantee a set price per board foot for our milling services. Hourly charging compensates us fairly for our time and the use of our machinery. Many factors affect how much lumber can be milled in one hour. For best results (quickest milling of logs), please consider maintaining these standards:
Logs are a minimum of 8' in length and ideally less than 16.5' in length (20' 6" maximum; expect thickness variance for 16'+).
Logs are a minimum of 12" in diameter (small end) and maximum of 32" diameter (large end).
Logs are reasonably straight, and have no big knots or rotten spots.
Logs have no nails, metal, rocks, bricks, concrete, etc. imbedded in them.
Maintain standard thicknesses of lumber (7/8, 1, 1.25, 1.5, 2, 3, 4").
Allow multiple or random widths and thicknesses of lumber rather than one specific measurement, whenever possible.
Allowing some bark-edge and some straight-edge pieces maximizes your yield.
If you are able to unload your logs from your truck or trailer at our sawmill, it reduces your cost in milling time, since we charge for our loader use as needed.
We can still mill your logs in many cases if some of these conditions are not met, but it does tend to slow things down, or increase waste, which means you get less wood for your investment.
Additional Services
If your log is more than 32" diameter at any one place, or longer than 20'6", call us to discuss options. We may need to make special plans to deal with your situation.
We do not take our sawmill off the property. However, in some cases we may be able to pick up your logs with our truck, for an extra fee. Ask for details specific to your situation.
Lumber delivery is also available, for an additional fee.
Sometimes we are asked whether we mill “on the halves” or some other form of barter. We prefer not to do this as a general rule. Rarely does it work out fairly for both parties.
